Registering Your Craft Business
When applying to craft shows, you may be asked for your Sales Tax ID #. this number is obtained by registering your business with the state in which the show is held. Once registered, you will receive your Sales and Use Tax Certificate. You will then be expected to collect sales tax from you customers and submit it the state on a regular basis.
Occasionally, representatives from the state will attend craft shows and ask to see this Certificate. If you don’t have it, you may be forced to leave the craft show and/or face fines. It is important to register your business to avoid penalties.
